These are the best layout options for your kitchen.

Spending so much time at home during periods of confinement has meant that kitchens have regained the prominence they once had in the home. We seem to have returned to enjoying the ritual of cooking as a family, spending more time in this room of the house. For this reason, a kitchen layout that is comfortable, welcoming and functional is increasingly valued.

But which layout should we choose from among all the possible ones? It is obvious that it depends on many aspects, starting with the shape of the room itself. In any case, today we would like to look at the most common layouts that can help you get the most out of your kitchen and make it more comfortable and convenient.

All forms of kitchen layout.

Before choosing the layout of the kitchen it is essential to stop and analyse the space which, as we have told you, is the best way to adapt each room to its purpose. Studying different variables such as the shape and size of the space, the layout of the room (location of windows, doors, partitions), the needs and lifestyle of the people who are going to use it… will be crucial in order to get the layout right.

It seems obvious that for a couple without children who do not eat all their meals at home, the kitchen may not be as important a room as it is for a large family who cook and eat at home every day. In the same way, as much as a person would like to have a kitchen with an island, they will hardly be able to opt for this layout if their kitchen has few square metres or is very long and narrow.

Returning to the issue at hand and once these aspects that must be taken into account have been highlighted, in general terms, we can say that these are the kitchen layouts most in demand by our customers:

1.- L-shaped kitchens:

If your kitchen is too small to be U-shaped (which we will see later), the ideal solution may be L-shaped. In this layout, one and a half walls are used for the worktop and furniture, leaving the rest of the space free. This type of kitchen allows you to take advantage of the free space to create a small dining area or to add a storage space, if you need it, or for more decorative purposes.

2.- U-shaped kitchens:

This is one of the most comfortable and recommendable layouts, especially if you like cooking, and as long as you have enough space. With this layout, three of the four walls of the kitchen are used, with worktops and furniture on all of them. Without a doubt, it is a spacious kitchen, comfortable for cooking and living, with a large storage capacity and perfect, as we said, if you have a large space to create your kitchen.

3.- In-line kitchens:

This is a very common kitchen layout, especially in homes where the kitchen is very narrow, rectangular and with few metres available. If the width of your kitchen is less than 2 metres, this layout is the most recommendable. Here only one side of the kitchen is furnished, placing high cupboards to use the space up to the ceiling. This way, you can have more space to store things and organise all the kitchenware.

4.- Parallel kitchens:

This is one of our favourite layouts, but it also requires a lot of space. It is perfect for elongated and rectangular kitchens, especially those with a door at each end. The parallel design with units on both sides is very practical for cooking and getting around the kitchen comfortably, but as long as there is a minimum of 1.5 m between the two lines.

5.- Kitchens with island:

This is undoubtedly a very modern, elegant and functional kitchen design. It also creates a very practical space as the central island not only creates a very comfortable work area but can also be a storage space, a surface for eating… These kitchens with island invite to dialogue, to participate in the culinary tasks, to enjoy the kitchen more. Not forgetting that from an aesthetic point of view they are very beautiful and sophisticated kitchens.
