Tips for decorating the shelves in your home.
A shelf is a piece of furniture that is both functional and decorative in equal measure: on the one hand, it allows you to store objects and personal belongings in an orderly way, but on the other hand, as these elements are visible, they become an important part of the decoration of a room.
And precisely for this reason, because of the aesthetic dimension of what you put on it, you should know how to place the different objects on its shelves. In this post we are going to give you some basic tips that will help you to keep your shelves tidy but, above all, to make them look more beautiful, whether in the living room, in the office or in the bedroom.
How you decorate your shelves says a lot about you.
A bookshelf says a lot about the style of your home. In fact, the first thing you should bear in mind is that a shelf should always respect and be in keeping with the aesthetic style of the room in which it is located.
From here on, organising objects on it and at the same time giving it an original, beautiful and different touch is not easy, but these tips will help you:
- Colour palette: You cannot choose the colours of the spines of the books that you are going to place on a bookshelf, but you can choose the tones of the rest of the decorative objects that will be on it. And on this aspect, our advice is not to choose more than 3 colours and to stick to them when you buy more decorative elements. The result will be more elegant and aesthetic.
- Less is more: Another tip that always works is not to place more than one large object per shelf so as not to overload it. In addition, this way it serves as a “base object” to structure the rest of the things that you will distribute on it. This is a way of not saturating the shelf and making it easier to organise.
- Don’t be boring: Placing all the books vertically, ordered by height, is very boring. The fun lies in mixing different sizes, colours, as well as placing them vertically or horizontally on the shelves. The look will be much more dynamic and natural than the other way, which would turn the bookshelf into a kind of lifeless display.
- Avoid very small ornaments: Cluttering a shelf with thousands of figurines and small ornaments is not the best solution. It will look more childish, as well as giving the impression of being the shelf of a bazaar. If you have a lot of small ornaments, group them together but don’t spread them all over the shelves.
- Include the green touch of plants: What never fails when it comes to decorating a shelf are plants. They add a special touch and break with the artificial textures that predominate in this type of furniture.
