Advantages of using microcement in interior design projects
Microcement has gone from being a “fashionable material” as a floor and surface covering to becoming a permanent fixture in interior design options.
It is a material that offers an incredible aesthetic response due to the absence of joints and the continuous appearance that its application provides. Do you want to know what other advantages it provides and why it has become so present in decorative projects?
What is microcement?
There are different brands that market this product but, whatever the brand, it is a covering composed of a high-performance cement base mixed with polymers, ultrafine aggregates, additives and coloured pigments to give it different finishes.
This material is characterised by its great adherence to all surfaces, which is why it can be applied on floors and walls, but also as a covering for other structures and furniture fronts, such as a kitchen island, for example.
Microcement acts as a protective but also aesthetic coating, giving rise to a peculiar finish with an industrial, modern and minimalist style. Although it is true that the different pigments with which it can be made have led to warmer versions that are present in many more spaces in the home.
Using it as a final cladding saves a large part of the building costs that would be involved, for example, in laying tiles. Although it is true that the quality of this material and, above all, the professionalism required for its application in uniform layers of about 3 millimetres, means that it requires a certain amount of investment.
Advantages of using microcement
Throughout our extensive experience carrying out exclusive interior design projects in Mallorca, we have proven that opting for this material is the right choice:
1.- Simple application: Despite requiring great skill to achieve an excellent end result, it is true that its application does not require major works or all that they imply in terms of noise, dust or dirt.
2.- Sensation of spaciousness: As it lacks joints, it provides a continuity to the surfaces that contributes to generating a greater sensation of spaciousness, which is why it is very suitable for rooms that are not very large.
3.- Excellent adherence: It adheres to all types of materials such as mortar, ceramic, stoneware, wood, terrazzo, plaster, plasterboard… This makes it very practical and does not require the removal of the old material for its application.
4.- Easy maintenance: It is a very resistant material that withstands daily use very well. In addition, it does not require a great deal of maintenance, it is enough to clean it periodically with water and neutral soap.
5.- High resistance: It withstands extreme temperatures, rain, foot traffic and the presence of heavy objects very well. That is why it is perfectly preserved over time and is suitable for both indoor and outdoor spaces.
6.- Beautiful finish: Its handcrafted application gives it a unique finish, in addition to the fact that it does not crack or crack and has that special continuous appearance. As the tone and, to a certain extent, the texture can also be personalised, it is a material that can be applied according to the consumer’s taste and the style of the home.
7.- Antistatic material: Microcement has very low allergenic levels, which together with the fact that it is so easy to clean, makes it a perfect material for places such as health centres that require great hygiene.
8.- Multiple combination: It combines perfectly with any material that is present in the room such as wood, glass, aluminium… something that makes it very versatile and combinable, as well as fitting in all types of rooms.
At gHouse we use this material in many of our interior design projects in Mallorca because of the beautiful finish it provides as a covering for surfaces and elements in any part of the house.
